Bit of a dull drive from Boulder City to the Grand Canyon today - the mountains and desert plains soon gave way to more rolling hills and great prairie-type grasslands, with almost dead-straight roads. Very boring to drive, although we did have an excellent choice of petrol stop featuring many scifi murals (Moss Eisley Canteena aliens from Star Wars, Predator, Alien, Men in Black etc etc), and a great view of Lake Mohave
We had a *delightful* lunch stop in true Rose fashion (truck stop carpark next to extremely loud refrigerated lorries) before continuing on our way.
After another couple of hours we joined the queue to enter the National Park, as our chosen campsite was just inside the boundary. However, a few minutes later we were heading back out of the park, having failed to get a pitch as both campgrounds here were all booked up, us having forgotten it was the weekend and not booked ahead (holiday sense of time...). Luckily the campground only a little further back down the road had space so we pitched, did some washing and a bit of tack shopping.
A highly exciting day. Thankfully the weather is a little cooler than in Vegas (as we are at over 6500 ft currently), so we are looking forward to the full Desert Rim drive tomorrow, before camping (thankfully already booked) on the North Rim where apparently there are no people.
