Out of the parks

It was another freezing night but we were prepared - either donning thermal items, socks and a fleece or relying on the very intermittent (and noisy) furnace (otherwise known as a fan heater)!  This meant that whilst some slept as they were warm, others were kept awake because of the noise of the furnace - will we ever sleep properly?

We were soon on the road as the campground was itself closing today and wanted everyone out asap.  However we only travelled into Fishing Bridge (about 1 minute down the road, if that) for gas (petrol by any other name) and then started on the first photos of the day with pictures of the river as the light is particularly stunning in the morning.

Our return journey took us around the shore of Yellowstone Lake where we spied many cars by the side of the road so pulled up to see what all the fuss was about.  Apparently it was a male elk with magnificent antlers, lying in a field so we hurried over to see whether a photo was possible (let's face it, after the wolf fiasco we were more sceptical).  Anyway this was worth a picture opportunity as we didn't need binoculars even to see it!  Satisfied, we headed off for West Thumb Geyser Basin, which was truly fascinating with furiously boiling water, fabulous colours and wonderful geyser cones, some actually in Yellowstone Lake itself.

There was a brief stop at Lewis Falls - the great thing about these stops is that there is always plenty of room to park especially for RVs.  We then left Yellowstone and headed further south through the Grand Teton National Park - stopping for lunch at Willow Flats with the most beautiful views across multi-coloured willow scrub to the Teton Mountains with recent snow falls clearly visible.  We were hoping to see moose there as they apparently graze in this area but unfortunately none was seen today. We headed on, taking a slight detour to the very quaint Jenny Lake before exiting the park - the last one in the USA we will be experiencing.  Unfortunately the rain now set in but we sped along through small towns before reaching our campground at Montpelier Creek to warm greetings from the campsite staff and a welcome shower.

Having been without wifi or even mobile reception we are now catching up with the blog so apologies to all our watchers!
