We awoke to the standard lovely blue sky and temperatures rising quickly. A fairly straightforward run through vineyards, lemon groves and orchard fruits, with blots on the landscape of ghastly industrial complexes. We're heading for Las Vegas so had to aim for somewhere within fairly easy reach which happened to be Barstow.
Lunch was off the Freeway - at a place called Mojave - right in the middle of the desert of the same name. We passed a huge aeroplane graveyard before finding a deserted car park with some shade - most welcome when temperatures must have been around 40 degrees. How and why people live here is beyond us. We were kept amused over lunch watching some poor chap shovelling dirt from the car park into a wheelbarrow where it promptly blew out onto the car park again! Still it would keep him in a job forever.
We made good time and reached Barstow in the early afternoon to quickly pitch camp and put on the air con. We decided that as we had the time, this would be a housekeeping day e.g. washing and some maintenance on this dreadful RV. So the girls kept an eye on the couple of loads whilst Les tackled the cupboard under the sink where an earlier leak had rendered the cupboard unuseable with some soapy residue and warped laminate. Our van now resembles a Chinese Laundry with lines and coathangers everywhere - such a shame we can't hang it outside (against campground regs) as it would dry in no time.
Jobs done, it was time for a quick dip in the quite small pool - Stella is used to doing quite a few lengths in the gym back home but was not up to double or even treble the lengths to get some decent exercise so called it a day as it was nearing drinks time! We also managed a quick Facetime with Alexander before dinner, sat outside in the balmy evening with the traffic of the Freeway roaring by. Tomorrow - Vegas!
